Review Policy

Thanks so much for your interest in my blog! I’m definitely interested in learning more about your book and whether or not it’s something I might want to read and review. Please, read the review policy below before sending your request.

What I read
It’s a little difficult to tell you what I like, since I tend to switch genres depending on my mood. There are a few absolutes though. I regularly read YA, romance, manga, and childrens picture books. I’m open to other genres, but please no self-help, cookbooks, or horror.

I accept the following formats: print, ePub, Kindle, PDF, mp3, audio CDs.

What I need from you
In your request please include the book title, author name, a synopsis, and a link to it’s Goodreads or Amazon page. If you are requesting an audiobook review, please include the name of the narrator.

What to expect from me
I DO NOT read on a first come, first serve basis. That means I can’t give a time frame unless I’m being involved in a blog tour or something that requires a review by a certain date.

All reviews are cross posted on Goodreads.

Here is a basic idea of what I include in my reviews.

Book Info: Cover, Title, Author, etc.

Rating: 1-5 stars
NO RATING – I do not rate books I don’t finish or skim through
1 star – I was disappointed.
2 stars – It could have been better.
3 stars – It was pretty good.
4 stars – I really enjoyed it.
5 stars – A new favorite!

Synopsis (usually from Goodreads)

Introduction – I’ll talk about why I decided to read the book and if I enjoyed it or if I was disappointed.

Characters – I’ll talk about the main characters: if they were relatable, if they were flat or complex, if they changed or developed.

Plot – I’ll talk about how engaging and realistic the plot was. This one kind of depends on the book since some books focus much more on characters than plot.

Structure – I may talk about the structure of the book if I found it interesting (flashbacks, rotating chapters, short stories that are all connected, things like that).

Themes – I may talk about themes in the book if I felt they were strong. I also sometimes talk about the title and why I think the author chose it or how it ties in with the story.

Conclusion – I always write a short conclusion that sort of summarized my thoughts on the book so readers can scan that if they’d rather not read the whole review.

Quotes – I just decided to begin including at least one quote from every book I review, even if it’s a silly one.

Content- If there is any kind of content that may offend someone, I warn them here. I’ll read pretty much anything, but some people have a lot of reservations about what they read.

If the book is controversial or I didn’t enjoy it, I may include links to reviews with differing opinions.

This review structure was inspired by LitLovers discussion guides.

Other features
I am always interested in participating in blog tours. Make sure you contact me at least one month in advance so I can get it on my calendar and get my review/interview/whatever ready.

IF I AM REVIEWING/HAVE REVIEWED YOUR BOOK, I would be happy to host an interview, guest post, or giveaway. I am no longer offering these services to authors I have not read. It makes me uncomfortable to promote something that I know nothing about.

I do not accept or receive any monetary compensation for my reviews.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND REQUESTS VIA GOODREADS, TWITTER, OR FACEBOOK! I will not read them.

To send a request, fill out the form below or email me at lauraashlee@gmail.com. I should respond to your email within a week or so. If you have not heard back from me after a few weeks, THEN you may contact me via another medium to make sure your email didn’t get stuck in spam world.
